More "SpitPaints"

Lately I've been focusing more on these SpitPaints. The reason for is because I have found that it's actually been helping me refine my work process for the better. Given the 30 mins time limit, I'm forced into a position where I have make the best decisions as fast as possible and then acting upon them with the same urgency.

Nemesis Bot Final & Process Break Down

NEMESIS BOT

I recently added some touch-ups on an older character. When I last "finished" him, the final execution felt unfinished. The character was completed (mostly) but the supporting background was not exactly supporting, so I fixed it.
See the previous version here (scroll down):
"Dragons, Guns & Steel"

This character is the arch villain of another character I created earlier year.

He can be seen here:
Space Explorer

Below is a break down of the process I took to create him.

"Spitpaint" & Studies

"EXTERMINATOR"

"BEAUTIFUL GRIM"

These images were done for the "Spitpaint" Facebook group I recently joined. These are my first 2 entries. Everyday we can choose from a variety of themes and then we have only 30 mins to visualize it in own way. No photo references, no planning or prepping of any kind. Just straight from the mind's visual library. A fun and challenging concept/practice. Looking forward to doing more.

RECENT STUDIES

Figure Painting

Mechanical

The idea behind the mechanical studies is simply to analyze and copy mechanical structures. It's one of my weaker areas so I've been doing more of these lately. I'd actually like to try a different approach to how I've done this image; something more basic and analytical. This one is a bit too polished I think.

"Piano Man" - Final

My blog mascot?

Probably not. I recently finished this piece. Changed the background composition and the colors.

It started out as a sketch. Took about a month long break from it while I worked on other stuff. It's not really about anything, just a feeling I suppose.

Recent scratches & doodles...

BOILHEAD

GREEVIL

DEFORMED PSYCHE

Recent sketches I've been doing inbetween work.

The top image is something I started a few months ago, forgot about, and then recently rediscovered as I was organizing my files. Made a few touch-ups to the composition and added some more color.

The second image came about as a result of being in a weird mood where I didn't want to do any work. So, to counteract that feeling, I tried to visually personify it.

The last image first came to me in a dream. I interpreted as a symbol for a deformed psyche, a forewarning of what might happen to mine if I don't live the life I want to live.

'Wendigo' Creature

The 'Wendigo' creature is based on Algonquian (Native American) myth. It is essentially an anti-gluttony/greed myth told to encourage cooperation and moderation amongst tribe members.

The 'Wendigo' creature is described as being much larger than humans, gaunt, feverishly addicted to man-flesh and is often associated with the winter, famine, disease, starvation and, of course, cannibalism.

I wanted to capture that spirit with this piece.
